Come join your child in his/her preschool education! Learn about child development, parenting skills, community resources, nutrition, safety and family well-being. Watsonville/Aptos Adult Education, in collaboration with the Pajaro Valley Unified School District Extended Learning Program, will have an opportunity to offer a parent education afterschool component at the ILC downtown location. Students of high school age and who are teen-age parents looking to improve their parenting skills are welcome. For more information about registration call 786-2160. A Positive Parenting Program, The Incredible Years

This class will help parents develop a positive family environment. With the use of the evidence-based Incredible Years curriculum, the Instructor will address the behavioral and developmental needs of children from infants to teenagers. Each workshop will focus on a distinct set of parenting strategies and tips to help parents raise happy well-adjusted children.

Play and special time with your children (February 24)

When parents spend special time with their children, they help them:

• learn social skills and increase vocabulary

• improve communication, cooperation, and problem-solving

Effective use of encouragement, praise, and coaching with your children (March 23)

Through the use of effective praise, encouragement and coaching, parents will

learn how to help their children:

• improve learning skills and strategies

• increase self-regulation and responsibility

Setting limits and household rules (April 27)

Parents will learn how creating a structured home environment, with predictable

routines and consistent family rules can help their children:

• improve self-esteem

• increase self-confidence

Establishing consequences for misbehavior (May 25)

Parents will learn how to reduce inappropriate behaviors in their children by the

use of:

• age appropriate behavioral conseque

Play and Learn Family Time Playgroups, FREE

Play and Learn Playgroups are a two-hour class that parents and caregivers attend with their child. Each class includes arts, a structured circle time with movement, music and a story, and a different parenting topic for discussion with the adults. Discussion topics are specific to the needs of the families and ages of the children. Family playgroups build parental resilience, social connections, knowledge of parenting and child development, concrete support in times of need and social and emotional competence of children. The Playgroups are free of charge. Be prepared to have fun! Priority will be given to families living in Monterey County.

Juega y Aprende Tiempo en familia en grupos de juego, GRATIS

Jugar y aprender Los Grupos de juego es una clase de dos horas en las que los padres y cuidadores asisten con sus hijos. Cada clase incluye arte, una hora de círculo estructurado con movimiento, música, una historia, y un tema de crianza diferente para discusión con los adultos. Los temas de discusión son específicos a las necesidades de las familias y las edades de los niños, y a menudo incluyen el sueño, la disciplina, el desarrollo del lenguaje, el autocuidado, y más. Los Grupos de juego familiares construye resistencia paternal, las relaciones sociales, el conocimiento de la crianza y el desarrollo del niño, apoyo concreto en tiempos de necesidad y la competencia social y emocional de los niños. El costo para atender Los Grupos de juegos es gratis.
